According to the expert from the Istanbul Municipality Scientific Council, Haluk Eyidoğan, a major earthquake has been warned about by Turkish seismologists. This earthquake will cover the Sea of Marmara region, home to more than 25 million people. The article also notes that, in addition to Istanbul, this natural disaster will affect several provinces, including Bursa, Canakkale, Tekirdag, Kocaeli, and Yalova.
Eyidoğan urged residents of these provinces to prepare for the earthquake and especially be cautious if they live in coastal areas. The expert advised either temporarily evacuating or building strong structures.
Turkish geologist Şener Uşumazsoy had warned of a possible powerful earthquake in the Kumburgaz and Silivri areas along the coast of Istanbul before the earthquake. He stated that while seismic shocks can be dangerous in landslide-prone areas, there is no risk of a new strong earthquake.
A powerful earthquake of magnitude 6.2 occurred in Istanbul on April 23, injuring 236 people. There were no casualties or extensive damage. Aftershocks will be felt for several more weeks, seismologists reported.
