The owner of adult websites decided to block access to their content for users in France. The company that owns popular sites like Pornhub, Redtube, and YouPorn made this decision as a protest against new rules requiring internet companies to verify their visitors' age.
Users from France attempting to access these adult sites will see a message explaining why access is forbidden. The company explained that they are protecting user privacy and believe it's important to express their position.
“We put our values first. This means we must speak directly to the French and tell them what their government refuses to tell them,” explained Solomon Friedman, a partner at Ethical Capital Partners.
New Laws Require User Age Verification
The reason for this decision stems from new laws that require adult websites to verify the ages of users starting June 7. This action is aimed at protecting minors from explicit content. France is the second-largest market for Pornhub in the world, after the USA.
The company is also accused of violating European laws regarding the protection of minors. Aylo did not specify when access will be blocked but expressed hope that a solution for restoring access in France will be found quickly.
It was previously known that one of the popular adult websites was blocked for Americans due to trade disputes between the USA and Canada.
