The Entire Flight Standing: Budget Airlines Initiative Outrages Passengers.

European low-cost airlines may allow passengers to stand from 2026
European budget airlines or low-cost carriers may begin transporting standing passengers from 2026. This was reported by the Daily Mail, citing a project developed for these needs involving special seats. The project envisions that some budget airlines may introduce seating designed solely for standing passengers.
«This is a measure aimed at cost-saving, which will likely cause disagreements among travelers; however, it is reported that several budget airlines intend to introduce seating options where passengers can only stand,» the publication states.
Soft bicycle-type seats or saddles for horseback riding will allow passengers to lean and not sit fully. Additionally, it is envisioned that seat belts will be available on such seats.
Negative Reactions to the Idea of Standing Seats on Social Media
On social media, the idea of standing seats on airplanes has predominantly received negative feedback. Users believe this could lead to passengers being tied to the wing of the plane, equipped with an oxygen mask.
Such seating may appear in 2026 according to the project published by the manufacturer Aviointeriors. After the introduction of this innovation, the aircraft's capacity may increase by 20%. However, no low-cost carrier has yet confirmed their plans regarding this.
It is noted that Airbus is exploring the possibility of installing double-decker passenger seats in its aircraft to address the issue of cramped space in economy class. A few years ago, the concept of double-deck passenger arrangements was proposed by the startup Chaise Longue, the idea of which is currently being considered by Airbus engineers.
Furthermore, Turkish airlines will fine passengers for standing until the airplane has come to a complete stop and for attempting to turn off the seat belt sign. The fine for violating these rules is around 20,000 Turkish lira (approximately $520).
It is noted that there has been a large amount of discussion and negative feedback regarding the possibility of introducing new types of seating in airplanes from well-known airlines; however, demand for these services has not yet been clearly defined.
