Ukrainians were told how to legally obtain firewood.

In March 2025, many citizens of Ukraine continue to search for legal ways to secure solid fuel for heating their homes. Experts explain the details of self-collection of wood without violating the legislation.
Firewood is an extremely important source of heat for residents of rural areas and homeowners, where the stove remains the main means of heating. Just going into the forest and using the wood is prohibited - there are strict rules.
The Land Code of Ukraine has strict restrictions on tree felling. All forests in the country are under state control, so illegal logging can lead to serious penalties.
The key rule is to obtain permission from the local authorities. To cut down trees outside private land plots, you need to contact the village council or the district state administration.
Exceptions are landowners. If trees grow directly on your agricultural land, you can cut them down without additional permits. Additionally, clearing the plot of self-sown plants is the responsibility of the landowner.
However, specialists warn about the need to clearly define the boundaries of your plot. Accidental or intentional felling on someone else's territory can cause serious conflicts and administrative liability.
After collecting firewood, it is important to follow the rules for using the remaining wood. According to the 'Fire Safety Rules in the Forests of Ukraine', burning branches is allowed only during a safe period.
Earlier, Ukrainians were explained the importance of increasing penalties for illegal logging.
