A bill on the renaming of Pervomaisk is registered in the Rada.


The city of Pervomaisk in Mykolaiv Oblast was proposed to be renamed to Olvia, and Pervomaisky District in Mykolaiv Oblast — to Olviysky District. This is stated in the draft resolution on the website of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine No.12096, registered on October 7.
According to the explanatory note to the bill, renaming of geographical objects is carried out in order to comply with the law "On the condemnation and prohibition of the propaganda of Russian imperial policy in Ukraine and the decolonization of toponymy" and the standards of the state language.
The Commission on Naming and Renaming of Toponymic Objects at the Executive Committee of Pervomaisk City Council of Mykolaiv Oblast decided to submit the name "Olvia" for public discussion among the residents of Pervomaisk. After public discussions, the name "Olvia" took fourth place.
In the conclusion of the National Commission on State Language Standards dated 11.08.2023, No. 3/1103/23, it is stated that the option of renaming the city of Pervomaisk to Olvia complies with the standards of the state language.
The bill is an author's project of MP Maksym Dyrdin. It is currently being considered by the Verkhovna Rada committee on state power organization, local self-government, regional development, and urban planning.
Recall that the expert commission of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory recommends the renaming of another five cities in Ukraine.
