The Gulag History Museum in Moscow closed due to 'fire safety violations'.


The Gulag History Museum will temporarily cease operations from November 14
Following an inspection of the museum by specialists from the Center for Expertise, Research, and Testing in Construction of Moscow, fire safety violations were found that pose a threat to visitors.
A source in the Moscow Department of Culture noted that the restrictions are related to the ventilation chamber of the Moscow Metro, located on the museum's premises.
The Gulag History Museum was established in 2001 and presents materials about the repressive system in Russia.
In 2023, the Sakharov Center was liquidated
The Sakharov Center was liquidated by a Russian court in 2023, and the archival materials were sent to storage.
Previously, the Moscow authorities terminated the lease agreement for the center's premises and for Andrei Sakharov's apartment.
