Case details
A 23-year-old woman from Odessa was obligated to take the young man to the Moldovan border and guide him on the route of his further journey. They hid the man in the car, but when they approached the border with Transnistria, the car was stopped by law enforcement. Another man was also present with the woman, and his involvement in the incident is currently being studied.
Various items were seized from the woman as evidence of the violation, including a mobile phone and the car she used to transport passengers.
What punishment is threatened
The woman was notified of suspicion of illegal smuggling across the border under Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. For this crime, she may face up to seven years in prison. The man, in turn, was issued a protocol for violating administrative border crossing rules under Article 204-1 of the Code of Ukraine. He may face a fine or up to 15 days of detention.
As a result of joint actions, the woman and her accomplice could be held accountable under the law for illegal actions aimed at crossing the country's border.
