How many Ukrainians died in Russian captivity: Ministry of Defense data.

According to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, at least 177 Ukrainians who ended up in Russian captivity have already died since the invasion began. Unfortunately, the real number of dead may be significantly higher, as many bodies are not returned home and are not even recognized by Russia as prisoners. The delay in Time in Russian prisons brings them closer to death, stated Victoria Tsymbalyuk, a representative of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.
As a result of prisoner exchanges that took place between Ukraine and Russia, about 3,600 prisoners of war and deported citizens have been returned. However, thousands more remain in Russian prisons.
The report of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights notes that torture of prisoners of war was widespread and systematic, with the permission of the Russian leadership. The report also points to 11 dead Ukrainians since March 2023, as well as many attempts to commit suicide, including one confirmed case, presumably due to torture.
PACE adopted a resolution calling for the release and rehabilitation of Ukrainian prisoners and demands that Russia comply with international humanitarian law.
The Independent International Commission of the UN found new evidence of torture by Russia of Ukrainian civilians and prisoners of war in the occupied territories of Ukraine and in Russia.
