Rwanda and Congo signed a peace agreement mediated by the USA.

A peace agreement between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo was signed in Washington with the participation of US representative Marco Rubio. According to the agreement, Rwandan troops are to be withdrawn from eastern Congo within 90 days by 2024. This decision is aimed at attracting foreign investment to the mineral-rich coal region and strengthening economic ties between the two countries.
The conflict between Congo and Rwanda escalated due to increased activity of rebel groups in January this year. The M23 movement captured key territories, leading to UN warnings of a possible escalation of the conflict in the region. This prompted the USA to mediate and establish a peace agreement between the parties.
«Today the violence and destruction come to an end, and the entire region begins a new chapter of hope», said Rubio.
The agreement reached between Rwanda and Congo provides for the withdrawal of Rwandan troops from eastern Congo by 2024, thereby contributing to a peaceful resolution of the conflict and enabling economic development in the region.
