Funerals in Ukraine could become significantly more expensive: Funeral services to be taxed.

The government of Ukraine is planning to tax state funeral services
According to draft law No. 12189, registered in the Ukrainian Parliament on November 8, the introduction of value-added tax (VAT) on funeral services and the supply of funeral goods is envisaged. The simplified taxation system for providers of funeral services will also be abolished.
MPs propose to introduce VAT on funeral services and the supply of funeral goods by state and municipal services, and to abolish the simplified taxation system for providers of funeral services.
The draft law provides for the following changes in the Tax Code:
- Exclusion of VAT exemption for funeral services and the supply of funeral goods by state and municipal services;
- Abolition of the possibility of the simplified taxation system, accounting, and reporting for providers of funeral services.
This draft law was developed together with the draft law 'On amendments to some laws of Ukraine on reforming the funeral and funeral services sector'. Some provisions of the Ukrainian law 'On funeral and funeral services' do not correspond to the requirements of the market economy and the practices of providing funeral services.
It was previously reported that stricter penalties for drivers are being discussed in Parliament.
