Car Repainting: Drivers Explained When Registration is Required.

The Main Service Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reminded Ukrainians about the importance of re-registering documents when changing the color of a vehicle.
When you change the color of your car, it is important to understand when registration documents need to be updated. Re-registration is mandatory if you have changed the base color of the car - this applies even in cases where only part of the body is painted.
In case of a change in saturation or shade within the same base color, documents do not need to be re-registered. There are officially recognized 11 base colors for cars, and internal variations do not require re-registration.
Trends in Car Color Changes in Ukraine
This year, there has been an increase in official re-registrations of cars after their color change, especially concerning passenger cars. Approximately 190 cars receive new registration certificates every month.
The peak of activity in changing the colors of passenger cars occurred in October 2024. Freight vehicles are also often repainted, but the activity of buses in this process was most evident in March 2025.
The most popular colors among Ukrainian passenger car owners are gray, black, and white. Bright and unusual painting options remain less popular.
In case of changing the color of the car, it is important to re-register the documents on Time to avoid possible problems with law enforcement agencies. The deadlines for updates are important depending on the changes in the base color of the vehicle, so owners should pay attention to this.
