Swiatek withdraws from participation in the Billie Jean King Cup
Iga Swiatek, the world's second-ranked player, announced that she will not participate in the Billie Jean King Cup matches. She made this statement on Instagram.
I have made a difficult decision. I understand that this is not what the fans wanted to hear, especially the Polish ones, but this is the right decision for me. I will not play in the qualifying round of the Billie Jean King Cup, which will take place in Radom.
Swiatek explained that she wants to focus on herself and her training.
I always proudly represent my country. Last year I played the entire tournament for the national team, and I am very proud of our team's achievements. But now it's Time for more harmony and focus on myself and my training. I support the girls and the entire team.
The group matches of the Billie Jean King Cup will take place in Radom on an indoor clay court. Ukraine will play against Poland on April 11 and will meet the Swiss team the next day. The team that wins the group will advance to the final tournament.
Svitolina returns to the top 20 of the WTA rankings
Elina Svitolina, a tennis player, has risen to the 18th place in the WTA ranking. This marks her 350th week in the top 20 of the world rankings.
Svitolina first entered the top 20 rankings on May 11, 2015, and has been part of it multiple times. Her longest period in the top 20 lasted 272 weeks from August 2016 to April 2022. This season, she returned after a break due to pregnancy and childbirth. Last year, Svitolina was in the top 20 for 19 weeks.
