Heraskevych broke into the top 10 at the first stage of the World Cup in skeleton.

Vladislav Heraskevych finishes in the top 10 at the first stage of the World Cup in skeleton in the Korean city of Pyeongchang. This is reported by the Base of Ukrainian Sports.

Heraskevych completed his first run in 13th place today, November 16. In the second run, the Ukrainian improved his position and ultimately finished eighth.

The second Ukrainian skeleton athlete, 17-year-old Yaroslav Lavrenyuk, who also competed today, finished in 26th place after the first run, failing to qualify for the next stage.

Tomorrow, November 17, the second stage of the World Cup will take place in Pyeongchang. Both Ukrainian skeleton athletes will also compete.

Recall that Heraskevych spoke about his plans for the new season.

In particular, the athlete noted that he hopes to win World Cup medals.

«For me personally, this is the World Cup medals (season goal – «Glavkom»). For our team, this is also testing and improving equipment, as well as enhancing the start acceleration for Yaroslav Lavrenyuk and me. This season is already important for qualifying for the 2026 Olympic Games, so the goal is also to maintain the second quota for the World Cup. One of the important tasks of this season is the World Championship in Lake Placid. I hope our team approaches this start in optimal shape,» said Heraskevych.

He also assessed the progress of another Ukrainian skeleton athlete, Yaroslav Lavrenyuk.

«In addition to the World Cup stages and the World Championship, Yaroslav has planned to compete in the junior world championship in St. Moritz, Switzerland, and the junior European championship in Sigulda, Latvia this season. He is maturing and already creating very strong competition for experienced athletes at the World Cup. But we also have very high expectations, as together with Yaroslav, we plan to secure two licenses in men’s skeleton for the 2026 Olympic Games. A lot of effort still needs to be put into achieving this mission,» emphasized the skeleton athlete.

Recall that due to a missile attack by Russian troops on Kyiv on July 8, Vladislav Heraskevych’s classmate, Yelyzaveta Verbovetska, was killed.

«25-year-old Yelyzaveta Verbovetska, a person with whom we sat at the same desk during school years, was killed by a Russian missile in the Adonis clinic during a massive shelling of Kyiv on July 8. At the moment of the strike, she was in the reception corridor on the 4th floor,» wrote Heraskevych on social media.

He also noted that he has no words to describe the pain of losing such a bright girl as Yelyzaveta. 

«All the good memories from school years will now always be covered by the pain of this unjust loss. Yet another young life. Yet another ruined fate. I hate Russia,» emphasized Heraskevych.

Recall that the air-launched missile Kh-101, which the Russians used to destroy the children’s hospital Okhmatdyt in Kyiv on July 8, was equipped with components of Western production.
