European Space Shield: Kallas named the main principles.

EU member states plan to build a 'space shield' to protect space infrastructure
Kaja Kallas, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, stated that EU member states have a common interest in building a 'space shield' to protect space infrastructure. She emphasized that the security of satellites is crucial for the security of each EU member state. In this regard, she noted that the EU is developing a new 'European Space Shield'.
The EU High Representative also stressed the need for proper information, capability to act, and collective defense in response to hostile activities in space. She mentioned that the EU receives regular information about threats in orbit from national space commands of member states.
Kallas stated that the EU intends to adopt legal norms that will allow it to respond to attacks in space. She noted that the EU must consider punitive measures for such attacks, similar to cyberattacks. Last December, the EU imposed sanctions against hidden units of Russian intelligence services in response to hybrid attacks.
Regarding collective defense, Kallas said that all members of the European community are obliged to provide assistance in the event of an attack on any EU country or its territory. This also extends to countering space threats.
Kallas emphasized the need to build defenses in close coordination with international partners, particularly with the USA, NATO, and the UN. She stressed that the EU will closely cooperate with other partners, such as Australia, the Republic of Korea, and Japan. Cooperation with NATO and the UN is also planned.
The EU High Representative called for establishing an international order in space together with partners from around the world, as there is a risk of turning space into the 'Wild West'. She emphasized that together we are stronger and better protected.
