The former mayor of Sumy, Hennadiy Minayev, recounted how he found himself near the explosion site today. According to him, he passed the intersection of Shevchenka Avenue and Novomistenka Street just a few minutes before the explosion occurred.
«Today, in Sumy, at my favorite intersection of Shevchenka Avenue and Novomistenka Street, I had to walk just a few minutes before the rocket explosion! I was already in the courtyard of my apartment, the distance was only 280-290 meters, and suddenly I heard a loud explosion, followed by several more...» - wrote Hennadiy Minayev on his Facebook.
Victims and Destruction
After the attack by Russian forces in the center of Sumy, three civilians were killed, and 16 people were injured, including a 17-year-old teenager. Some of the injured are in serious condition and require hospitalization. A shell hit the roadway in one of the narrow areas, causing a fire in a car that was promptly extinguished. Damage to buildings, cars, and warehouses was also recorded in other areas, although without significant destruction.
A statement to declare June 4 as a Day of Mourning in Sumy in connection with this tragic event has been directed to the public.
