Where the Armed Forces of Ukraine achieved success during the new offensive in the Kursk region: ISW map.

According to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), Ukrainian forces continued their advance on three fronts in the Kursk region. On January 5, they made tactical gains.
According to Russian sources, Ukrainian forces carried out numerous mechanized assaults in the Berdinsk-Novosotnytsky direction, using armored vehicles. They also initiated offensive actions towards Leonidovo and conducted a reinforced mechanized assault near Pushkarny.
Geolocation footage shows that Ukrainian forces continued to advance south of Berdin and entered the southern part of the settlement.
Regarding Russian forces, they continued to advance west and south of Makhnivka.
“Russian milbloggers expressed concern that Ukrainian actions might distract from the main efforts. They argue that it is still too early to say,” the report stated.
Recall that the Ukrainian forces began their offensive in the Kursk region in early January 2025. On January 5, the Armed Forces of Ukraine attacked the villages of Berdin and Velyke Soldatske. According to Andriy Kovalenko, this came as a surprise to the Russian Federation.
It was confirmed that the Armed Forces of Ukraine carried out the offensive on several fronts, including Leonidovo and Ruske Porichne. The Russian Ministry of Defense describes these actions as a counteroffensive aimed at halting the progress of Russian forces in the Kursk region. Ukrainian forces used tanks, armored combat vehicles, and engineering equipment during the assault near the Berdyn farmstead.
